DPS Draft 2

This is my second dps draft. I have kept the same colour scheme as the previous draft but I have made a few changes. Firstly, I changed the photo as it wasn't very conventional. This was because the photo was completely going off the page but on this one you can see the photo does not go off the page. Also, the photo I previously used went over where the paper fold would go so I changed the image because if I kept the other one it would have been unconventional and it wouldn't have looked good. Also, I changed the Masthead and stand first font as it didn't really fit in with my DPS and also I didn't really like the look of it. I had to change the size of my font of the article as on the previous draft one of the questions started at the bottom of one column then started on the next and it didn't look conventional and it was too hard to follow so I changed the font so it was bold and a bigger size so it sat on the same line. I think this is a much better improvement than my previous draft as it is more of a conventional DPS and looks realistic.

This is the full article in text.. I have included the rest of the article also which continues onto the next page..

Will is the new rock star on the scene and his new found fame has changed his life dramatically, especially since he announced his UK tour and album. We caught up with Will at our office while he was taking a break from his rehearsals. He speaks about his new found fame, his album, his tour, his style and answers
some of YOUR questions!

Article (interview):
WILL hasn't been in the music business for long, but he is becoming more and more popular by the second. He's only been in the business for around a year and he is already gaining lots of fans, producing his first album AND touring the UK! Even though he has all these priorities, the one thing Will doesn't forget to look after is himself. With his style that is seen by many, he definitely knows how to make heads turn. If you're wondering what on earth we're on about and want to find out more about Will, then keep reading as you'll soon find out.

What's it like being famous?
"Well, it's crazy that's for sure! It's also really surreal, I never imagined anything like this, I mean, the other day I was in a shop and I saw my face on a t-shirt, how crazy is that! I wouldn't ever take it for granted though, this was my dream when I was younger and now it's happening. I love making music and seeing people enjoy it."

We know your famous for your music, obviously, but what about your style?
"Funnily enough, I get asked about my style all the time, I wouldn't say it's anything special but I do like to make myself look nice. I'd say my outfits can be quite outstanding sometimes, when I want them to be, but it's good to stand out and be a little different sometimes. We can't have a world where everyone looks the same, imagine that!"
Do you think style is important in the music business?
"I wouldn't say I've ever thought about it. If you know what you're doing and if you present yourself in the right ways, people will respect you for that but I think people should take pride in how they look. It sounds shallow but I think looks make a strong impression, especially in the media."
Moving onto your tour, how has it been preparing for it?
"Not easy, to say the least. Don't get me wrong I love it and I love rehearsals but it's a lot of pressure to make things go right, I don't want to let my fans down. My tour isn't till later on in the year, May for that matter, so I have a lot more time to carry on preparing."
You're releasing your first album soon which times perfectly for your tour, how do you feel about your album?
"I think the fans will love it, I hope. I've worked really hard on it and some of the songs on there are songs I've written in the past but I've altered a few things. I thought about releasing it last year but I knew it wasn't fully finished so releasing it before my tour is the plan. I'm hoping to release it in late March or early April."
So we've asked you some questions, it's now  time to ask you some questions from your fans. If you could do anything else as a job besides music, what would you do and why?
"Well, that's a hard one. I don't know, I kind of had a hobby when I was younger which was Photography but I don't think I'd want a career in it. Maybe acting, I like the idea of that."
If you were to choose your favourite rock artist/band, who would it be?
"That's an easy one. Paramore. I've liked them since I can remember, I really like their style of music and Hayley's voice is the best. I think they're a really cool band and so successful."
What is your favourite movie?
"The Craft. You may not have heard of it? But it's a really good film. It's from 1996 and it's about witchcraft. I highly recommend it."
Do you get nervous before performing?
"I aren't going to lie, obviously I do, but doesn't everyone? I love going out and performing to my fans but before you go out it is so nerve wracking, all these thoughts are going through your head like what if something goes wrong. It always happens no matter how many times I perform."
Who inspires you?
"Well, vocally, I'd say Hayley Williams. The reason being is because she's so diverse and I admire her for that and also her vocal range is amazing!"
Lastly, what's your favourite TV show?

"This one is easy. One Tree Hill. I watch many TV shows but One Tree Hill is definitely my favourite. It tackles some relatable issues very emotively and that's what I love about it. I'd definitely say if you haven't watched it, put it on your list of things to watch."

DPS Draft 1

This is my first DPS draft. I have followed the colour scheme of my front cover and contents page, mainly using black and red. I was going to use white as my background but I thought that it was too plain and decided upon having a dark grey instead. I have followed all of the key conventions of a DPS and I am happy with my outcome. I have used a pull quote and stand first at the top of my article and with the start of my article I have used a drop cap. Also, I have put another quote in the middle of the text so it stands out and gives you an idea of what the article is about. I think some things need changing for this draft as they don' really look right. For example, I am going to change the pull quote and stand first's font as I don't really like the style of it as it doesn't fit in with the genre of the magazine. Also, there is a question which starts on one line but continues on another so I am going to sort this out so they are on the same line. Finally, I think the photo I have used is too big and I am going to make it smaller or find a similar picture so that it fits the page properly.

Contents Page Draft 4

For my final draft, I decided that having the letter from editor at the bottom in black wasn't very good as you could hardly see the text written on the dark background. I also decided I wanted the 'WILL' text back as it is clearer for the reader to tell who it is. This time instead of having it too big and in black, I changed it to red and minimised the scale of it so it was still visible but didn't take up to much space on the photo. Also, under the feature 'FALL OUT BOY', I have written 'Talk about their new movie, in cinemas now!' which I had to add as I changed the feature story of Fall Out Boy on my final front cover, so doing this makes it consistent.

Contents Draft 3

For my third contents page draft, I took away the text 'WILL' completely as I thought it was too big and you couldn't really see it with the photo in the background.

Contents Draft 2

For my second contents page draft, I only changed one thing. The text where it says 'WILL' on the main photo of the page, I took away the red box behind it as I didn't think it looked that good and I didn't think it looked realistic or conventional.

Contents Draft 1

This is my first contents page draft. For the contents page, I researched different rock magazines to see how they did theirs and I found Kerrang!'s contents page to be the most suitable design when making mine. I focused on using all the main conventions in a magazines contents to make mine look as realistic as possible. The colours I have chosen; red and black and white are very consistent as I have used them on my front cover and I am also going to use them as my main colours on my double page spread. I feel like all the headlines and texts I have used are eye -catching and they fill the space in well. Also, all the features I have used have appeared on the front cover which is following conventions as it stays the same throughout. I think my letter from the editor is good as I followed similar to what they have done in Kerrang! so I haven't spoke too much about irrelevant things and just kept it brief and understandable. I have also used four photos which is the minimum for the contents page but I could possibly do with maybe one other one to fill more of the space in. When I took the pictures that feature on the contents page I made sure the model brought appropriate clothing to fit in with the rock genre so that it didn't look unrealistic. I think my drafts are good but possibly some of the font needs changing for specific bits of text so they fit more within the genre of my magazine.

Contents and DPS photos

Music Magazine Front Cover Draft 5

This is my 5th front cover draft. This has some minor changes from the previous draft. The text underneath 'My Chemical Romance' was too much to the left so I have made it so it goes further to the right nearer to the edge of the magazine cover as this way it all fits and is in line. Also, I had the feature text about Fall Out Boy's new movie at the top of their photo but I didn't really like how it looked so I changed it and put it underneath as I think it looks more conventional and easier to read.

Music Magazine Front Cover Draft 4

This is my 4th front cover draft. I haven't changed a lot on this one other than 2 of the feature stories. Firstly, I changed the 'My Chemical Romance' story so that the text was bigger and also so that it lined up better and took up a bit more space so the space underneath was not left blank. I also changed the colour slightly as the colour before was more orange than yellow. Also, on the previous draft I had left the 'Fall Out Boy' feature blank and just a picture of them there with their band name so it was unclear as to why they were on the front. Due to this I added some text to make the reader aware of why they are there. As the picture is of them holding a movie clipper I decided to reflect this in my feature. Therefore I put that they have a new movie out as I know this will appeal to my target audience.
