Music Magazine Front Cover Draft 1

This is my first front cover draft for my music magazine. I decided to go with the name 'RIOT!' because I thought it was short and easy to remember, also it fits in with the rock genre. The colour scheme I have chosen is black, red and white because I thought they were simple but bold so they stood out to the audience. The masthead font is from dafont.com and it is called 'Immortal', I chose this font because I thought it was quite 'rocky' and it fit in with the genre. I had my model wearing a leather jacket because it conotates the rock genre which makes it realistic. I have included a plug to make the magazine look more interesting to the audience and I used this shape so it stood out. In the skyline, I have used some bands name which I know are very popular so they would be good to appeal to the audience. I have used a barcode near the footer, which advertises the things inside, and I have put the price, date and issue number near the masthead so it is easy to find. I made the price £2.20 because I thought it was suitable for my target audience. I thought the gradient background was effective and made it look more interesting and appealing rather than having a plain white background. Having a plain white background would make my image, which has been cut out on Photoshop, unrealistic and messy. I used the Leeds and Reading 2014 announcements as one of my feature stories because I know existing rock magazines do this and the event is very popular. If I were to do this again and change things, I think I would add more feature stories and also experiment with different fonts for my masthead. Although I am happy with this finished draft, I still feel more needs to be done to it.

Music Magazine Front Cover Draft Images

These are the images I took for my front cover draft of my magazine. I took these images using a Fujifilm bridge camera. The facilities I have used aren't really suitable for my pictures but I would edit the background out. My model, Will, has worn a leather jacket, black skinny jeans and a camouflage top. I asked my model to wear these clothes because I thought they fit in with the rock genre. I tried to restrict my model from doing a lot of different poses because from research of existing magazines, rock magazines don't have a lot of poses going on, they are usually quite serious. I didn't want over the top poses because my magazine is rock and I want it to be following conventions of existing products to make it as realistic as possible. Overall, the images I took I am happy with. Although, in the first image, the lighting is a bit too dark and it needs more exposure but the rest of the images are ok. In some of the images, the lighting is a bit too bright but this can be altered in Photoshop if I were to use one of the highly exposed images. If I were to do these photos again, for my final product, I would use the correct facilities and make sure the lighting is sufficient to use.

LIIAR Analysis Peer Feedback

LIIAR Analysis Peer Feedback

1.)    They have completed their work to a high standard, it looks like they have spent a lot of time presenting it and making sure they get all the right information on it.
2.)    I don’t think there is anything to improve on as it is already at a high standard
3.)    I think they have presented all the information really well and made sure that the information they have got is accurate.

1.    The analysis is to a very high standard, it is clear they have put a lot of time and effort into it. It is set out clearly and professionally which also shows the effort put into it.
2.    They could maybe go into slightly more detail on the ‘Representation’ section of the double page spread, but apart from that, I cannot think of any other improvements.
3.    All the points are backed up with detailed explanations and the information is accurate, as well as being clearly set out.

My Response

I feel very happy with my feedback and I will follow how it is set out and the detail as it proves to be a high standard and detailed. Also, I think if I did this again I would improve the ‘Representation’ on my double page spread to make it more detailed and of high standard.
